What are YOU rushing for?

I feel like beginning a coaching career is my destiny. It helps me to become more self-aware with the help of self-reflection and feedback from the people around me.

I was stuck in an endless cycle, always on the run and doing things that weren't even necessary.

This is something I think many Hong Kongers are familiar with -- living in a fast-paced town and feeling like that's what is expected of us. I always thought this was essential, that to be successful we need to act fast, move fast and grab opportunities as soon as they arise.

But then I asked myself, what did we really gain from this hurried life? What did we miss out on?

Before starting my own business, I was working for a coaching company. Every day, I had to pass through the busiest platform in Admiralty to switch from the "Red" line to the "Blue". In this crowded space, you could come across all kinds of intriguing scenes.

Every morning, as the train pulled into Admiralty station, I watched as numerous people began to sprint, all eyeing the other side of the platform (the Hong Kong island line). They were pushing and shoving other passengers who were not running as fast and seemed to be in a hurry to get onto the train, as if there were no other one coming. Even though some of them almost made it, the door closed before they could board. Some were visibly frustrated, while others were distracted, playing games or reading news on their phones.

This made me ponder: why were they running at all? Another train would come along in a few minutes. Were they in a hurry or was it an unconscious act of "Running for Running's sake?" Was it really so painful to wait a few minutes for the next train?

I began to walk slowly and observe people running to the other side of the platform. It was captivating to see them “Running” as if this was their only chance.

What am I in such a rush for? This question kept spinning around in my head, and I couldn't find the answer.

"Just be, and enjoy being. If you are present, there is never any need for you to wait for anything.” - Eckhart Tolle

Most of us are constantly caught up in the past and worried about the future, instead of savoring the present. We can't get back the past and we don't know what the future holds, so why rush?
